Haunted Homes Get a Makeover: Designers Tackle Spooky Renovations

Last updated: September 24, 2026

The world of home renovation is getting a decidedly spooky twist with HGTV's latest offering, ‘A Very Haunted Renovation.’ This new series dives into the fascinating niche of updating properties with a history – and sometimes, a reputation for being more than just old. The show brings together a cast of talented designers who are tasked with breathing new life into homes that are not only architecturally significant but also carry a certain… ambiance. It’s a premise that taps into a growing fascination with the intersection of history, design, and the unexplained. This trend reflects a broader interest in historical properties and the unique challenges they present. Homeowners are increasingly drawn to the character and stories embedded in older homes, but these structures often come with their own set of quirks and preservation needs. Designers stepping into this arena must balance modern living demands with respecting the past. ‘A Very Haunted Renovation’ highlights the specialized skills required for such projects. Beyond aesthetics, these designers likely grapple with structural integrity, historical accuracy, and, of course, the 'haunted' aspect which adds an entirely different layer of consideration. It’s a testament to how renovation goes beyond mere aesthetics, delving into a home's narrative. The appeal of ‘A Very Haunted Renovation’ lies in its ability to blend aspirational home design with a touch of the supernatural. It’s a compelling watch for anyone interested in how designers navigate the complexities of historic homes, especially when those homes come with a legendary past. For homeowners in and around Chicago, Illinois, who might be inspired by the idea of updating older properties, or simply need to ensure their current homes are functioning smoothly, addressing elements like sliding doors is key. These can be a significant source of drafts or operational issues in many homes, new or old. If you're dealing with a sticky or drafty sliding door, arranging for a professional assessment can make a big difference in comfort and efficiency.
